After the cold long winters, come bright beautiful summers. The heat encompasses all aspects of your skin and as sweat builds up, what is the solution to cool off? Water.

From drinking a cold glass of ice water, taking a cool shower, or diving into the pool, water is key to surviving these summer months.

Pools start to have floods of people as well as floods of slip and fall accidents. The influx of people getting in and outside of the pool allows excess water to surround the edge of the pool.

Don’t run near the pool! This is one of the most common sayings we hear lifeguard’s scream. Their purpose is to prevent the approximately 155,000 injuries that occur from slip and fall accidents near pools.

Diving, jumping, and running near the pool can all lead to accidents. Slipping on the diving board or slipping on the surface before a jump can potentially lead to an injury.

Slip and fall accidents can result in minor or major injuries.

Injuries Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Soft tissue injuries: Injuries that may damage the soft tissue of muscles, ligaments, and tendons.[i] These injuries may not be visible to the human eye.
  • Broken bones
  • Ankle, wrist, elbow
  • Brain injuries
  • Concussions
  • Spine injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Neck injuries

Slip and fall injuries can be severe and account for one million hospital visits each year! Although the sunbeams at an astronomical level in the summer, be careful near the pool.

Listed below are steps to prevent a slip and fall accident near and around the pool area:
